After taking the tech quiz I realized the true gap between technology and myself. There is a lot that I thought I knew about technology but this quiz made me realize there is another world of technology that I am unaware of. There are a few things that I do not know such as the difference between malware and viruses or what AUP is. In this course I hope to learn more about these and continue to grow in the computer skills I already have.
After reading a few articles I learned that AUP stands for the Acceptable Use Policy. I also learned that the difference between malware and viruses. Malware is any type of software that my cause a computer to dysfunction by taking personal information. A virus is a program formed from malware that puts copies of itself into an individual’s computer.
Since I knew most of the navigation tools on a Macintosh computer I decided to show my mom a few of the short cuts that I find useful. First I showed her how to take a screen shot. I showed her how to take one of the whole screen or one of just a portion of the screen. I also showed her how to select multiple pictures or documents in order to move them to a different location. These are both tools that I find very useful so I passed them on to her!
The process to help develop these skills on the computer was very helpful and this is how you should run your classroom. First test your students to see where they stand in a subject area. Then take those results and formulate tutorials and lessons that will help them develop the skills they need for this task. Then finally give them practice to make sure they have mastered the lessons you have taught. I found that by going through these steps it made me more aware of the things I need to educate myself on. Now that I have educated myself in the gray areas, I feel more prepared to begin the “21 things” and apply them to my future classroom.
