Classroom Management, Organization and Expectations
Management and Organization
Expectations of the students:
Minor Disruptions:
When a minor disruption occurs I do not believe it should be made a big deal. If you make a minor disruption a big deal it will cause backtalk and more disruption. Instead I believe that students should be given non-verbal cues to get back to work, or small talks. These talks should be enough to motivate the student as long as the student respects me.
On-going discipline issues:
I believe that if a child is causing an on-going disciplinary issue it should be addressed in a quiet manner but on a personal level. You should approach the student during individual work time and tell them you would like to speak to them after class. This prevents further disruptions of other students and embarrassment of the child in trouble. When you talk to them after class I believe it shows how seriously you take that disruption. Also I believe that this would be the time tell them what you are going to do the next time this disruption occurs.
Aggressive and Violent Behavior:
Aggressive and violent behavior will not be tolerated in my classroom. When this occurs I will immediately send the student to the office or have another student escort them. The student will be asked to call their parent or legal guardian, asking them to come in to the school immediately. A parent, teacher, student, and administration meeting will be held to determine the punishment for such actions.
Classroom Rules
In our classroom we will:
- Treat others the way we would like to be treated.
- Be respectful
- Be responsible
- Be kind
- Work to reach the same goal
- First Offense: Students will receive a small touch on their shoulder, or quiet verbal warning if they are disturbing class.
- Second Offense: Students will have an individual conversation with Miss Street, private from the rest of their peers.
- Third Offense: Students must miss recess and discuss their actions further with Miss Street. During this time we will create a plan to avoid this action from reoccurring again. This plan must be taken home and signed by the student’s parent or legal guardian.
- Fourth Offense: Parent or legal guardian will be contacted about their child’s behavior and asked to come discuss their actions during a student, teacher, parent meeting.
- Fifth Offense: Student will be removed from the classroom and asked to speak with the principle.
